Wood Shake Conversion in High River

Wood Shake Conversion in High River

Roofing wood shake conversion to shingle
This project in high river was a fun one.  The wood shake was original to the house, which was built in the 60’s.  Large even by today’s standards, it sits on a beautiful corner lot.  Like many of the homes in high river, it is under substantial renovations.
The wood was quite degraded and had begun to leak in places.  There is a balcony on the rear of the house that was open to the elements and had also begun to direct water into the house.  We removed the old phylon covering and plywood that was hanging over the balcony and framed in a new awning, tying it in with the existing roof.  We then sheeted it and shingled over it, ensuring water shed into the eavestroughs and not into the house.  Surprisingly the roof deck was still in great shape and required no roof repairs, although we did find that the attic had only a few inches of insulation.
We’re looking forward to the rest of the project, where we will be installing eavestrough, fascia, soffit, and insulation to get this house a complete exterior makeover.  Once we’re finished we’re excited to say we helped this lovely home become even more beautiful!
